Barobo, Surigao del Sur: Salt of the Earth

Everyone dream to travel around the world. Who wouldn’t be?

One of my dreams since I was a child was that to get an opportunity to travel the world little by little. I usually felt jealous to those people who always have everything like time and money to travel. We all know that travelling is very expensive yet all worth it. Aside of it can open our minds to the outside world and best escape from stress, anxiety and problems; we can also discover and learn new things in travelling. I know it’s cliché but honestly that’s the reasons why I love to travel to different places.

I got a chance to visit Barobo, Surigao del Sur on summer together with my family. Barobo is a municipality in Surigao del Sur. It is civilized, but not as developed as my hometown Tagum City. As a matter of fact,it’s still far from being a city. Despite that, Barobo holds a hidden treasure that would surely make anyone love it.

We traveled by land at two o’clock in morning using our car for about three hours to reach Barobo, Surigao del Sur and gladly we arrived there at exactly 6 o’clock in the morning. I was so amazed how beautiful the beach was. Big waves captured my heart. After that, we ride a boat for island hopping.

Our first stop was the Naked Island, basically a white sand bar with some rocks. It’s quite small and some local tourist would only stop here to take some photos. Swimming here is also possible with its clear blue water. Waves come from both sides covering the island at every surge. So it’s better to get here early in the morning. In front of this island was the Turtle Island, you can get their through walking because the water is not that deep. We enjoyed getting jellyfish in there without minding the heat of the sun.
Second stop was the Linga Bay, which make Barobo, a town named after a tree species abundant in its early days, really a marvelous place worthy to be visited.

Our last stop for our island hopping was the Cabgan Island, just few meters away from Turtle Island. Most tourists would stop here for lunch. There are stalls selling food and souvenirs. It’s a very quite place where you can enjoy whining.  It may be not a soul in sight but the clear turquoise water, white sandy beach, and the abundant green of trees you’ll surely loved it.

Don’t miss to experience the beauty of Barobo, Surigao del Sur!
